Jimmy Buffett sings a song about Christmas where Santa delivers your presents in a canoe, yes that’s the way Santa does it here in Florida. Floridians decorate differently too, because while we do deck our halls we also deck our decks and masts with lights. We enjoy our boats year round and once they are twinkling with lights from bow to stern and every inch in between we take them out and show them off. Christmas boats parades happen all over Florida and are a great way to get the whole family in the holiday spirit. Here is a list of upcoming boat parades, look for one in your favorite area.

Perdido Key, FL – The program, originally launched Aug. 24, was an immediate hit with travelers. Originally proposed by the Perdido Key Chamber as “Keys to the Key,” the gift card program implemented by the Pensacola Tourism and Convention Bureau is a coordinated effort to bring tourism to the area. The early numbers reflected a tremendous response with all gift cards reserved in under a week. In an expeditious deluge, people from all over America made reservations and enjoyed a vacation in paradise. The program’s success resulted in one extension already. Now on the heels of the success of that extension, a second round of gift cards has been announced.

Navarre Beach, FL – Construction on the new 1,545-foot fishing pier on Navarre Beach, the longest in the state, is essentially complete and a grand opening celebration has been scheduled for 9 a.m. Saturday. Afterward, Santa Rosa County will suspend admission fees to the pier for the weekend to allow the public to walk along or fish from the new pier for free. The newest Florida pier will be open from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week. It will normally cost $1 a day to walk on the pier, and adults will pay $7 a day to fish; weekly and annual passes are available.

Panama City, FL – Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport (ECP), the first commercial international airport to be built in the US in past 15 years, began operations Sunday, May 23. Two airlines will offer travelers to Panama City Beach and other Panhandle beaches easy access. Southwest Airlines will have eight daily nonstop flights, serving Baltimore/Washington, Houston, Nashville and Orlando, and Delta Airlines will have 11 daily nonstop flights serving Atlanta and Memphis.
