Mount Dora – A Different Side of Central Florida

September 3rd, 2012

Blue Heron on the Dora Canal

I’ve known about the quaint little town of Mount Dora for years, it’s one of my parent’s favorite places to visit. Recently, however, some friends of ours, Rori Paul and Brian Young of WhatToDoInMtDora.com, invited us for an overnight visit to really get acquainted with all Mount Dora has to offer. In the coming weeks look for more detailed posts about our trip, but here’s a quick look what we did.

August 27th, 2012

Atrist Cafe Tu Tu Tango

If you have a group of friends and you’re looking for something different in the vast choices of places to eat in Orlando there is one that offers a truly unique experience, Café Tu Tu Tango. The whole place is set up like a ‘starving artists’ studio, sometimes they even have an artist there working on an original piece. The walls are covered with art that’s all for sale, even the bar and tables are colorful.

Shrimp and Kielbasa Skewers at Cafe Tu Tu Tango

If you interested in a different taste combination try the savory Shrimp and Kielbasa Skewers. They are marinated in pepper and serve with red beans and rice, a Cajun delight.

August in the Merritt Island National Refuge – Central Florida’s Best Wildlife Watching Spot

August 22nd, 2012

Wild Pigs

PIGS! I yelled as I pulled off the road and opened the door. Beverly was looking at a map or something and I had my camera in hand and stooped down to position myself behind a tree. I then motioned for Beverly to quietly come over and she slid in behind me in stealth mode. The seven wild pigs were feeding and doing what wild pigs do.

We were at the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge and had a great day watching a diversity of wildlife. The refuge is one of the best wildlife viewing parks close to Orlando to see a wide variety birds, mammals and reptiles.

Manatee on his back

A downpour left this manatee happily swimming on his back. He appeared to be drinking the rainwater as manatees need freshwater every couple weeks.

Osprey

There were many ospreys, like this one holding what appears to be a mullet.

June 27th, 2012

The Princess welcomes her subjects at Medieval Times

By Beverly Martinez-Collins – PlacesAroundFlorida.com

The feast began with a greeting from the King and his princess then came the introduction of the knights, on their horses with all their colors and banners flying; our knight was the green knight and from there the pageantry began.

Kirby Collins and I were there to see the premier of the new show and weren’t disappointed it was an entertaining feast for the eyes not just the stomach.

Try Boggy Creek Airboat Rides for a Central Florida Wildlife Adventure

May 17th, 2012

By Mike Cooney – Chief Explorer, Cooney World Adventures

It’s a cool morning, and there’s a light mist hovering just above the still waters of Lake Tohopekaliga near Kissimmee. A large turtle pops its head above the water, takes a quick breath and disappears with only a slight ripple to show it was there. Suddenly, a Great Blue Heron glides by and lands gently in the shallow water only a few feet away. Flocks of White Egrets can be seen flying in the distance along with many other Florida water birds. Against the cobalt blue sky an Osprey hovers for a few seconds before plummeting to catch its unsuspecting prey just below the surface of the water. Although this may sound like a description from early in the last century, it is a common occurrence for guests going on Boggy Creek Airboat Rides.
