White Sand Beaches of Pensacola

By Myscha Theriault – Independent Travelers Resources at Trekhound.com

While the panhandle may be a bit of a drive from southern Florida, it’s easily accessible for people in Georgia and other nearby states that border the Gulf of Mexico. Known as the Emerald Coast by locals and regional travelers, the area is beginning to bounce back from the BP disaster. From fishing rodeos to spa getaways and souvenir experiences for the serious shopper, here are a few places in northwest Florida you may want to check out.

Biketoberfest 2011 Photos

Biketoberfest 2011 - Bikers on Main Street

Daytona Beach, FLBiketoberfest 2011 is in the books for this year and I must say it was awesome. The weather was near perfect and the crowd was the largest we’ve seen in recent years. Dirty Harry’s rocked it once more with their wet t-shirt contests, and give a ways. The Banker and Blues club had some cool bands playin’ hot tunes; the Dog House was the place to be for heavy metal and their famous dancing on the bar, bartending girls really got the crowd going. On Main Street bikes and beer booths lined the way and the International Speedway delivered again this year with some great races, bands and deals. The food was fabulous and the merchandise was flying off the racks. Daytona Beach, as always, was a gracious host city and everyone felt welcomed.

Scarlett O’Hare’s Bar and Restaurant in St. Augustine Serves Up a Historic Dining Experience

November 12th, 2007

St. Augustine Historic District

By Kirby Collins

St. Augustine, FL – We recently traveled to St. Augustine to gather new content for PlacesAroundFlorida.com and took pictures galore. After an afternoon of wandering through the St. Augustine Historic District surrounded by many fine restaurants, we were starving.

We decided to try Scarlett O’Hare’s Bar and Restaurant. It was a great choice and with a unique decor and menu. We shared a Slab of Ribs and Grilled Mahi Mahi Sandwich, both were very tasty. For dessert we split a Key Lime Pie, it too was delicious.

They have a full liquor bar and we enjoyed cocktails named “The Scarlett O’Hare” in their “Ghost Bar”, which is listed in the National Directory of Haunted Places and is said to be haunted by the man who built the house. Visit their website at www.scarlettoharas.net.

Mulligan’s Beach House; A Restaurant in Downtown Jensen Beach

August 26th, 2007

By Kirby Collins

Jensen Beach, FL – Mulligan’s Beach House Bar and Grill is another great Florida restaurant located in Downtown Jensen Beach and across from the Intracoastal Waterway. Downtown Jensen is a great place to spend the day with shops, restaurants and night clubs just north of Stuart.

We shared the O’Mully Mahi Reuben sandwich and Fresh Catch Quesadilla again with Mahi Mahi. I ordered the Mahi Reuben without Thousand Island dressing as I have this thing about mayo and the like. They both were great and served with rice and french fries.

Mulligan’s Beach House has a full liquor bar and had a pretty good crowd the Saturday afternoon we visited. They feature live music on weekend nights and have plenty of seating.

Mulligan’s Beach House Bar and Grill is located at 2019 Jensen Beach Boulevard in Jensen Beach, FL.

Il Bellagio at City Place; Great Brick Oven Pizza, Salads and Martinis

July 27th, 2007

By Kirby Collins

West Palm Beach, FL – While visiting CityPlace last weekend, it was obvious brick oven pizzas and martinis without gin or vodka are all the rage, so being hip and all we asked around and locals told us “Il Bellagio” was the place, and we were not disappointed.

Il Bellagio Italian staff was excellent, our waiter Carlos was friendly and explained the menu very well without the snobby facial expressions you might expect when you mispronounce an item. The atmosphere is perfect with both inside and outside dining options, we’d been walking around all morning and chose inside where the air-conditioning was a welcome comfort.

We shared the “Pizza Pesto” and a “Insalata Parmigiana” along with a “Tropical Martini”, afterward we had an Italian Coffee. Everything was terrific and the prices were very reasonable. Il Bellagio is one place I look forward to visiting again.

Il Bellagio is located at 600 S. Rosemary Ave. Ste. 170 in CityPlace.
