Instead of a big ball dropping like they do up there in New York City, we drop a big orange in Orlando and a Conch Shell in Key West and we’re just as likely to toast the new year with a Rum Runner as champagne. Fort Lauderdale, FL – Royal Caribbean International’s newest cruise ship – the highly anticipated Oasis of the Seas – made her global debut today, arriving into her home port of Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Fl following a 14-day transatlantic crossing from Turku, Finland. Hundreds of eager onlookers – ranging from Royal Caribbean top executives to local government officials, residents and media – came out to welcome Oasis of the Seas to the United States for the first time and to be among the first to catch a glimpse of the world’s most revolutionary cruise ship.

Pompano Beach, FL – The Hillsboro Lighthouse is offering a tour of the Lighthouse at Hillsboro Inlet, Saturday August 16 from 8:45 am to 3 pm. The tour is sponsored by the Hillsboro Lighthouse Preservation Society, the society offers up to four tours per year. There are 18 points of interest featured during the tour and visitors will be able to climb the lighthouse.
Tours require joining the The Hillsboro Lighthouse Preservation Society for $25 annually or $35 for families. Corporate and lifetime memberships are also available. To find out more visit their website.
