Daytona Beach, FL – This year there’s a new buzz around Daytona Speedweeks and it’s all because over the last few months the track has been repaved. Drivers and fans that have been there since the repaving of the Daytona International Speedway has been completed seem to be pleased with the new racing surface and how the track is handling, so this should be a great year for racing as well. Some events race fans can look forward to, as always, are the Rolex 24 and ARCA events then the Budweiser Shootout will start off the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series schedule and then there is the 53rd running of the ‘All American Race’, the DAYTONA 500!
2011 Daytona Speedweeks Schedule
The Lucas Oil Slick Mist 200 and the Budweiser Shootout – Feb 12
The Lucas Oil Slick Mist 200 – 4:30 pm
Come watch the first of two races, the Lucas Oil Slick Mist 200, and see the future starts of racing battle for 80 laps, or 200 miles, in this is the season-opening event for the ARCA Racing Series.
Budweiser Shootout – 8:10 pm
The Budweiser Shootout is the 70-lap climax to this racing doubleheader. It’s a no-holds barred, non-points race featuring the top stars of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series such as Kevin Harvick, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Jimmie Johnson, Jeff Gordon and Tony Stewart.
Daytona 500 Qualifying – Feb 13
The Daytona 500 qualifying race is for the prestigious front row of the 53rd annual Daytona 500; this race will set the pole and outside pole positions. Last year Mark Martin and Dale Earnhardt Jr. captured the front row for the 2010, 52nd, Daytona 500. The remaining spots will be determined by the two Gatorade Duel races, scheduled for Feb 17.
Gatorade Duel – Feb 17 @ 2:00 pm
Gatorade Duel at Daytona is the preliminary event to the Daytona 500 it features two 150-mile qualifying races that determine the starting lineup for the Daytona 500. Qualifying for the Daytona 500 is unique in NASCAR.
NextEra Energy Resources 250 – Feb 18 @ 7:30 pm
The rugged trucks from the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series will tackle Daytona International Speedway in a 100-lap, 250-mile battle that is famous for its wild and unpredictable three-wide racing.
DRIVE4COPD 300 – Feb 19 @ 1:15 pm
The rising stars of the NASCAR Nationwide Series face off against the stars of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series in this 120-lap, 300-mile event, and many crowd favorites traditionally enter this event.
DAYTONA 500 – Feb 20 @ 1:00 pm
Forty-three of the best stock car drivers in the world compete in what has been called “The Great American Race,” and is NASCAR’s biggest, richest and most prestigious event, the 2010 Daytona 500 race was won by Jamie McMurray.
The best way to experience the race is in person at the Daytona International Speedway. There’s a huge party in the infield that lasts almost all week long, there is also a lot to see and do in Daytona Beach itself but be sure to get your tickets as soon as possible because this is the most coveted ticket in motorsports and has been a sell out since the race was first run in 1959.
