International Sea-Bean Symposium in Cocoa Beach Oct 17-18
October 10th, 2008
Cocoa Beach, FL – For something really unique, plan to attend the 13th Annual Sea-Bean Symposium at the Cocoa Beach Library on Friday and Saturday, October 17 and 18. The event is FREE, and features exhibits, presentations, sea-bean collections, and beachcombing displays.
What are sea-beans anyway?
Sea-beans are seeds from tropical rain forests and islands. They can drift with ocean currents for years before washing up on land.
Believe in the magic!
Legends say that sea-beans are magical. Beachcombers often wonder why they are drawn to these mysterious messengers from faraway places. Sea-beans travel the ocean currents along with other drifters — sea turtles, seaweed, message in bottles rafts, corks, sea glass, toys from ship spills, and Unidentified Floating Objects. Bring your beach treasures to the symposium for identification help.
Who are the Drifters?
The Drifters are beachcombers, surfers, park rangers, naturalists, teachers, oceanographers, artists, scientists, and anyone interested in beach and ocean life. Each year, we gather to exchange information at this symposium.
